As reported by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Australia, Vasyl Myroshnychenko, Kyiv has sent the country a request regarding the provision of F/A-18 fighter jets. Ukraine desires information regarding the acquisition of 41 military jets of this type. These aircraft have already been decommissioned and are now stored at an air base north of Sydney.

The F/A-18 Hornet was the first all-weather fighter and attack aircraft that was designed for missions such as interception and close air support. The Hornet demonstrated its capabilities and versatility early in its use during Operation Desert Storm, where the aircraft shot down fighter jets and bombed enemy targets, proving its deadly effectiveness as a strike fighter.

Planes of this type can perform a full range of tasks: air dominance, fighter escort, reconnaissance, air refueling, close air support, suppression of anti-aircraft assets, and day or night high-precision strikes.
