A third company in Ukraine has begun producing biomethane at its facility, and four more are expected to become operational within the year. The first two biomethane plants are reported to have an annual capacity of three million cubic meters, while the third has a capacity of 11 million cubic meters. If all seven companies produce biomethane, Ukraine could generate 111 million cubic meters annually. Exports of this gas are anticipated to begin in the coming weeks.
Biomethane is a carbon-neutral alternative to natural gas that can be used to generate heat and electricity, and it also serves as a transport fuel and as a raw material for the chemical industry.
Meanwhile, deep processing, particularly bioethanol production, is a priority for the Ministry of Agrarian Policy. During a meeting between Minister of Agrarian Policy Vitaliy Koval and Brazilian Ambassador Rafael de Mello Vidal, the parties discussed collaboration in agriculture and bioethanol production. Brazil is recognized as the world leader in bioethanol production, making its experience with using bioethanol as fuel for agricultural machinery and vehicles valuable to Ukraine.
