Head of the Ministry of Agricultural Policy, Taras Vysotsky, said that as of June 20, 50,000 tons of the 2024 harvest had been harvested, and this week the figure has exceeded 100,000 tons. The main crops are winter and spring barley, peas, and wheat. According to the minister, the harvest of grain and leguminous crops this year will amount to 56 million tons. This is a good indicator, in Vysotsky’s opinion, considering the country is in the third year of war.
He stated that there is a decrease in arable land for grain crops, which relates to crop rotation. At the same time, the area under oil crops was expanded significantly. Therefore, 20-22 million tons of oil crops are expected this year.
“In conditions of war, Ukrainian farmers are harvesting from 80% of the country’s agricultural land because 18-20% of it is temporarily under occupation. At the same time, all agricultural land controlled by Ukraine is fully sown”, the official noted.
