In January-February 2023, domestic metallurgical enterprises received 120,000 tons of scrap, approximately 25% of the figure for the same period last year, noted the Ukrainian Association of Secondary Metals. In the first two months of the previous year, metallurgical plants received 488,500 tons of raw materials. The total volume of scrap procurement in January-February 2023 amounted to 152,200 tons against 520,400 tons a year ago. The association explained that this trend is due to crisis phenomena in the procurement industry and current market pricing. Industrial scrap stocks in stock as of March 1 are estimated at 15,000 – 20,000 tons, while at the beginning of February, they amounted to 20,000 – 25,000 tons. Therefore, it is possible to maintain business activity in the Ukrainian metallurgical market thanks to the export of raw materials, which has tripled from 7,100 to 24,800 tons compared to last year.
