On Monday morning, one of the drones that were spotted in Moscow was brought down near a Russian Ministry of Defense complex. Russian media footage showed damage to one of its buildings.
Russia reported Ukrainian drone attacks early Monday that targeted Moscow and Russia-occupied Crimea. According to multiple Western sources, the area in Moscow also houses the Russian Foreign Military Intelligence, known as the GRU, which carries out cyber activities. It’s also near the Russian Ministry of Defense’s National Defense Management Center. Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin also said two non-residential buildings were damaged but that there were no reports of casualties.
In Crimea, the Russia-installed governor said a Ukrainian drone strike hit an ammunition depot, though air defenses downed 11 drones.
Kyiv rarely claims responsibility for attacks publicly, but in this instance a Ukrainian security official has claimed responsibility for the drone strikes that struck the Russian capital and Crimea overnight.
