Ukraine is making every effort to ensure that the intergovernmental conference on negotiations on our country’s accession to the EU takes place in June, said Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Olga Stefanishyna.
“Ukraine has plan B, plan C, plan D – just in case this conference occurs. The conference must takes place under any conditions,” she emphasized, adding that Ukraine conducts regular negotiations with all EU member states.
She added that EC President Ursula von der Leyen confirmed that the EC will insist on negotiations starting.
“The Ukrainian government team is already preparing for this meeting on June 25-27,” Stefanishyna noted.
As Politico writes, Brussels plans to start negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU in June. However, Hungary’s opposition may stand in the way of these plans. Currently, diplomats from the EU and Kyiv are working intensively to convince the Hungarian government to give its consent. These efforts are aimed at beginning formal negotiations as early as June 25.
