Ukraine stated following over 8 hours of discussions in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday to accept the US proposal to enact an immediate, interim 30-day ceasefire, which can be extended by mutual agreement of the parties, and which is subject to acceptance and concurrent implementation by the Russian Federation. US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz informed reporters in Jeddah that the US will now present the proposal to Russia to seek its agreement.
President Donald Trump also agreed to immediately lift the US’ freeze on military aid and intelligence for Kyiv. The statement also reveals that the US and Ukraine discussed the necessity of conducting prisoner exchanges with Russia during the ceasefire.
“They made concrete steps and specific proposals, not only accepting our proposal for a full ceasefire,” Waltz remarked.
“We also delved into substantive details on how this war will permanently conclude, what type of guarantees they’ll have for their long-term security and prosperity, and what it’ll take to finally end the horrific fighting.”
The two sides also agreed to conclude a rare minerals deal “as soon as possible” to expand Ukraine’s economy and guarantee the country’s long-term security.
