UIA can exchange the company's debts for shares.

Businessman Ihor Kolomoisky, co-owner of Ukraine International Airlines (UIA), is not opposed to the state receiving a stake in UIA in exchange for debt. “We are ready if state support for UIA is in this form, which will forgive debts in exchange for shares, even if for a while, and then UIA has to buy these shares and return the money to the state, he said in an interview with Ukrayinska Pravda. According to Kolomoisky, the UIA debt to the government of Ukraine is roughly $35 to 40M.
