Turkish floating thermal power plants

The Energy Company of Ukraine (ECU) signed a memorandum of cooperation with Turkish Karpowership for the use of floating thermal power plants with a capacity of 500 MW. Karpowership’s statement states that the company’s power plants will be able to meet the electrical needs of one million households in Ukraine. One of the primary options is placing these power plants in the ports of Moldova and Romania and supplying electricity to the Ukrainian grid through these countries. General Director of ECU Vitaliy Butenko explained that constructing new power units to replace those destroyed and damaged by Russia is impossible in war conditions. Therefore, the state must look for innovative solutions to overcome the energy crisis. The use of floating thermal power plants, which can run on liquefied gas, diesel, fuel oil, or biofuel, is a globally recognized technology.
