Advisors to future US President Donald Trump have acknowledged that it will take months to reach a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia, not one day, as Trump promised during the election campaign. Two associates of the US president-elect said they are considering a period of several months to be necessary in order to end the war in Ukraine.
Trump’s advisors’ assessments coincide with comments by incoming US special envoy for Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg, who recently said he would like to end the war within 100 days. However, former US Ambassador to Ukraine John Herbst believes that even Kellogg’s terms are too optimistic.
In turn, President Zelenskyy said that his team is working to organize meetings with the future head of the White House and his administration, the key topics of which will be ending the war with strong security guarantees. At the same time, Ukrainian authorities have not abandoned their principle of not conducting negotiations personally with Russian dictator Putin.
