US President-Elect Donald Trump is categorically against launching strikes deep into Russian territory. He said that such strikes are escalating the war and making it worse. “This should not have been allowed. I think this is a huge mistake,” he said.
However, Trump does not plan to reduce support for Ukraine. “I want to reach an agreement, and the only way to reach an agreement is not to leave Ukraine,” Trump said.
White House adviser John Kirby emphasized that allowing the use of long-range weapons is aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities and creating strategic advantages for it in the war, which will contribute to successful negotiations.
Kremlin’s Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov, commenting on Trump’s position on long-range strikes, noted that it fully coincides with the position of Moscow itself. “Trump’s statement corresponds to understanding the reasons for the escalation. We like this,” he added.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz once again refused to supply Ukraine with long-range Taurus missiles, calling such a decision a “mistake” to “avoid a conflict between NATO and Russia at all costs.”
