The current US presidential administration does not currently see that Ukraine or Russia are ready for peace talks, said White House strategic communications coordinator John Kirby.
The FT, citing sources in Russian circles, writes that the primary goal of Russian dictator Putin in any negotiations will be to reach new security agreements that will guarantee that Ukraine will never join NATO. At the same time, European leaders and officials are convincing the newly elected US president and his team that continued US military assistance is necessary to strengthen Kyiv’s position and help bring Moscow to the negotiating table.
On the other hand, the ISW noted that no peace negotiations can succeed if Putin demands Ukraine’s surrender and territorial concessions. Moreover, Russian security forces and military officials are actively pushing for further escalation of the war against Ukraine, rejecting the idea of resolving the conflict through negotiations.
