A bipartisan agreement to prevent default will not limit the ability of the Biden administration to provide additional assistance to Ukraine, said White House Budget Director Shalanda Young.

According to Bloomberg, the compromise measure passing through Congress would increase defense spending by 3.3%. Agency sources said that any additional military aid would go through Congress as a supplemental measure that would not be subject to the deal’s cap on federal spending. It is unknown whether the White House may turn to Congress for additional funding for Ukraine.

In December, President Joe Biden signed into law a $45B aid package to Ukraine as part of the year-end spending bill. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, the United States has provided Ukraine with $36.9B in defense aid.
