The new package from the US will include anti-tank weapons, grenades, and critically needed 155-mm and 105-mm artillery shells; it is also expected to contain ammunition for HIMARS artillery rocket systems. However, it is not yet known if it will include ATACMS munitions. The package will be provided as part of the US Presidential Authorization (PDA), which provides assistance directly from the US’ available stocks.
Meanwhile, the first batch of shells from the Czech initiative has arrived in Ukraine.
Also, Spain handed over a second batch of missiles for Patriot air defense systems and Leopard tanks. Madrid also provided munitions, anti-drone systems, and optoelectronic surveillance systems.
Simultaneously, the German Ministry of Defense plans to order more than two million artillery shells to replenish the Bundeswehr’s warehouses, and the purchase price may amount to a record €15B. Within this agreement, NATO members and Ukraine can order additional volumes, and the framework provides for the possibility of purchasing a total of 2.3 million rounds of ammunition.
