US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen expressed this opinion in an address to the participants at the IMF and the World Bank spring meetings in Washington.
According to IMF representative Gavin Gray, if Russia’s war against Ukraine ends by mid-2024, Ukraine’s need for external financing will amount to $115B. However, if the war continues until 2025, the need will increase to $140B.
At the same time, according to Yellen the US will cooperate with its partners to ensure Ukraine’s needs. Donors will coordinate long-term aid to Ukraine through a separate platform.
Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, the US has provided Ukraine with $15.5B in financial aid and has agreed to allocate over $10B to Ukraine by September 2023 to cover the budget deficit.
