Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, paused the chamber’s work until the end of February without bringing the aid package which includes funds to support Ukraine’s military to a vote. Chamber members will return to work starting February 28.
Meanwhile, a bipartisan group of moderate congressmen in the US House of Representatives introduced a compromise supplemental funding bill on February 16, which includes aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, as well as measures to strengthen security on the US’ southern border.
Bill H.R.7372 provides $66.32B for the US Department of Defense to support countries at war. In particular, $47B for Ukraine, $10B for Israel, $5B for the Indo-Pacific region, and $2B for the operations of the US Central Command.
At the same time, at the Munich Security Conference US Vice President Kamala Harris said that the US, together with its allies, will continue to provide Ukraine with the necessary weapons and resources to defend freedom and democracy.
