The US hopes Ukraine will restructure its debt by autumn.

The US hopes that Ukraine will be able to reach an agreement with private creditors on debt restructuring by September 1, US Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo while in Kyiv.

“This is one of the conditions of the IMF program, and it is in everyone’s interest to reach this agreement,” Adeyemo said.

He said the biggest variable regarding how much money Ukraine will need next year is whether the war continues.

“Our goal is to do everything we can to end this war as quickly as possible,” he said.

The official added that Ukraine can meet its needs in the future, not only in the fight against the Russian Federation and the end of this war but also in the case of building a sustainable economy for the future.

In addition, Adeyemo discussed with the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office of Ukraine, Iryna Mudra, the strengthening of efforts to limit the Russian Federation’s purchases of dual-purpose goods and the development of an international compensation mechanism to hold Russia accountable.
