The US does not want to allow Ukraine to strike with its weapons deep into the Russian Federation, hoping to restart relations with the Kremlin in the future.

The US might provide modified ATACMS munitions for operations in occupied Crimea.

Long Range Misiles

The administration of US President Joe Biden does not want to permit Ukraine to strike with its weapons deep into the Russian Federation because, in the future, Washington hopes to “reset” relations with Moscow, and giving this permission to strike could nullify such efforts, writes Politico.

For more than two years, Biden has not allowed Kyiv to freely use American weapons in Russian territory, fearing the escalation of tensions in relations with Moscow. However, the Ukrainian source of the publication notes: “Now there are certain signs that Biden may want to do something important about Ukraine – maybe even lift some restrictions – before the election, since he is not running.”

Currently, the US allows the use of its long-range missiles in the Russian Federation’s territory, but only to hit military targets near the border. But the Biden administration is being pressured by a bipartisan coalition of senators to change its stance on using American weapons now, before it’s too late.
