The US and Germany do not want to rush Ukraine’s accession to NATO.

Almost 90% of Ukrainians want their country to become a NATO member.

The national flag of Ukraine and the United States and flag of NATO are fluttering against the blue sky

Ukraine and its Eastern European allies want a NATO invitation as soon as possible, but Washington and Berlin are more cautious. In addition to the US and Germany, other Western NATO representatives also oppose an immediate invitation. They believe that Ukraine cannot be accepted into NATO during the war so as not to provoke a conflict between NATO and the Russian Federation over the occupied Ukrainian territories.

However, in the long term, everyone agrees on Ukraine joining NATO. At the same time, France is ready to send Ukraine an official invitation to become an ally of the Alliance. In turn, Poland, the Czech Republic, and the Baltic states believe that only Ukraine’s membership in NATO will convince Moscow to stop the invasion. Other accession supporters think it will be cheaper than the constant supply of weapons to Ukraine.

However, the US asked its allies not to push the issue at the NATO summer summit to prevent Russia from discussing a split in the Alliance.
