The US aid package for Ukraine is again under threat; Democrats are not happy with the confiscation of Russian assets.

Democrats are outraged by US House Speaker Mike Johnson’s plan to provide aid to Ukraine. According to Axios, the Democratic concern is centered around using the REPO act to confiscate frozen Russian assets within in the US.

Johnson believes that these assets can be used to finance aid to Ukraine. He also floated the idea of providing some of the aid as a loan and reversing the Joe Biden administration’s decision to suspend permits to export liquefied natural gas.

However, none of these ideas have significant support among Democrats. They demand that the bill approved by the Senate be put to a vote.

“All the speaker needs to do is allow the House to vote on the bipartisan Senate bill that has already passed. That may be the only way, and certainly is the fastest way, to get it to the president’s desk,” centrist MP Greg Landsman said.
