European countries want to create two battalions of Leopard tanks for Ukraine as soon as possible, writes Spiegel. Germany will deliver 14 Leopard 2 main battle tanks. Tanks from Germany will join the battalion, likely to include tanks from Finland, Spain, and the Netherlands. In particular, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland, Pekka Haavisto, said that his country is ready to participate to one degree or another in the consensus decision to supply Ukraine with the Leopard 2. Spain is ready to hand over 53 Leopard 2 to Ukraine. However, only 20 are in good condition, and the other 33 require appropriate maintenance. The Poles and Norwegians are assembling a second battalion consisting of Leopard type 2A4 tanks. Portugal is also preparing to hand over four tanks to Ukraine.
