The State Property Fund announces a new strategy for the use of state lands.

Liberalizing the land market will move Ukraine $20B toward restoring its agricultural sector.

Half a million hectares were sold in three years. How much is the land worth?

The Ukrainian state owns about 800,000 hectares of land, and almost half of it is currently at the disposal of the State Property Fund of Ukraine (SPFU). Currently, the fund has ownership of 386,000 hectares of land, of which 98,000 are under Russian occupation. In addition, about 98,000 hectares of land are encumbered by courts and criminal proceedings.

The SPFU plans to lease land to businesses through land auctions. These auctions will begin in August and are expected to bring ₴1B to the budget by the end of the year. In the first pool, the fund plans to lease 82,800 hectares.

European Pravda states that the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences manages 277,000 hectares of land. In 2023, 210,000 hectares were transferred from the institution to the SPFU. These are mostly problematic enterprises and those under occupation.

Another 99,200 hectares are used by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Justice has 41,700 hectares, and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy owns about 1,600 hectares.
