The Senate is preparing for plan B regarding aid to Ukraine.

US Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer plans to remove the bipartisan agreement on border security from the emergency defense spending bill and submit to the Senate on February 7 only consideration of a financing package for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, as well as humanitarian aid to Ukraine and the Gaza Strip. Senators expect the legislation to pass without border security reform.

As The HILL explains, Schumer still plans to hold a procedural vote on the Ukraine-Israel funding package, which includes border security reforms. That way, he can give fellow Democrats a chance to vote for him and claim that they tried to solve the border crisis.

But Republicans are expected to block the package – and then, according to Schumer, he will move to Plan B. Enough Republicans are expected to vote for him. If that plan fails, Republicans could potentially vote twice in one day to block the defense bill.
