CONSTANTA, ROMANIA: Industrial port shipyard quay with heavy load gantry cranes and large containers in Constanta port.

Romanian operators at the Black Sea port of Constanta are investing in the expansion of their grain handling capacity as Ukraine ramps up exports, Reuters reports. About 2.7 million tons of Ukrainian grain passed through Constanta in August, Viorel Panait, manager of the Comvex operator, said.

Comvex, which doubled its barge unloading capacity last year, is increasing its grain storage capacity by 25% to 250,000 tons by increasing train handling speed. The company has partnered with the Grup Feroviar Roman railway operator, which has a new train transshipment system at the Ukrainian-Romanian Vadul-Siret-Dornesti border crossing. The system will allow Comvex to process an additional 120,000 tons of grain monthly.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Agriculture of Poland said that the Ukrainian trade representative’s arguments convinced him, and that he is ready to negotiate and find a solution that will protect Polish farmers and help Ukraine.
