President Zelenskyy, who cut his visit to Canada short following the deadly Russian attack on Ukraine and the departure of the US president from the summit, summarized the results of the meeting in Canada. According to him, decisions were made during the negotiations regarding increasing military aid to Ukraine, new tranches of profit from frozen Russian assets, and further sanctions against the aggressor state.
In particular:
- Canada will allocate a new military aid package to Ukraine totaling CAD 2B ($1.5B) and is introducing new sanctions targeting Russia. The support package will include drones, helicopters, and ammunition. As part of the country’s expanded sanctions, restrictions have been imposed on several individuals and more than 40 organizations in Russia and abroad. The sanctions target companies that assist Moscow in circumventing restrictions, as well as over 200 ships of Russia’s shadow fleet.
- Germany gave its assurance that it will continue to provide military assistance to Ukraine, with Chancellor Friedrich Merz believing that pressure on Russia will increase.
The G7 issued a statement regarding the Russian-Ukrainian war on behalf of the presiding party. They emphasized their support for diplomatic efforts, specifically by US President Donald Trump, to end the war and to increase pressure on the Russian Federation.
