The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom promises to increase efforts to support Ukraine; Zelenskyy asks permission for strikes in Russian territory to protect civilians.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has pledged that his country will “double down” on its backing of Ukraine. He stated that Ukraine has the “unwavering support of the United Kingdom” and that Russia’s aggression is “unforgivable and cannot go unpunished.”

President Zelenskyy appealed to Starmer to help Ukraine get permission to use Western long-range weapons for strikes deep into the Russian Federation. According to the Ukrainian leader, if restrictions on the use of Western weapons are lifted it will help Kyiv to strengthen its defenses and destroy weapons centers in Russia.

“I ask you to show your leadership (in this matter),” Zelenskyy said.

At the same time, the UK minister of defense, John Healey, did not rule out accepting Zelenskyy’s request to use British-made missiles in enemy territory, but added that Britain would not be involved in such attacks.

As the President of Ukraine noted, every month Moscow drops about 3,500 aerial bombs on Ukraine’s civilian population, which is why it is necessary to destroy Russian bombers at military airfields that are in their territory.
