According to research by the Ribas Hotels Group, the country’s tourism industry is actively recovering despite the challenges associated with the war, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the annexation of Crimea. Since 2013, the number of collective accommodations in Ukraine has decreased annually by an average of 175 facilities. At the same time, the number of hotels has increased by 9.1%, motels by 10.7%, and hostels by 28.7%. The hospitality market’s recovery is being driven by domestic tourism, temporarily displaced persons, and relocated businesses.
In the first quarter of the year, the number of taxpayers increased by 19% compared to the previous year. By mid-2024, room occupancy was 34-38%; in popular regions, occupancy exceeded 60-70%.
Ukraine is also actively working to popularize the country’s status as a tourist destination on the international stage. It is predicted that after the war’s end, tourist numbers may reach 14.5 million. Increasing the number of rooms by 30-40% will be necessary to meet this demand, with the current construction volume of new hotels insufficient to achieve this figure.
