The NBU requires Visa and Mastercard to stop servicing cards issued by Russian banks.

The National Bank of Ukraine appealed to the Visa and Mastercard international payment systems to stop servicing payment cards issued by banks resident in the Russian Federation. The regulator explains that such an appeal is due to the need to take measures related to the introduction of martial law in Ukraine to pursue the Presidential Decree “On the imposition of martial law in Ukraine.” The appeal continues, “The team of the National Bank is taking all possible measures to ensure the financial stability of Ukrainians and to counteract Russia’s aggression in the financial sphere as much as possible.”
