According to the Minister of Environmental Protection, Ruslan Strelets, Ukraine must stop using waste landfills and start building waste management facilities, such as waste incinerators and processing plants.

At the same time, the minister admitted that this is a long-term prospect because the appropriate infrastructure for Ukraine’s waste management must be created first.

Strelets said that as of August 2022, the department had already assessed Ukraine’s entire territory and marked 207 places on the map where such facilities can be built. “These are investment cases for any investor to build a suitable enterprise there,” the official stressed.

One such waste processing plant will soon appear in the Kyiv region, Boryspil. The project already has a land plot and is financed by international institutions.
