The head of the Munich Security Conference, Christoph Heusgen, believes that it is possible to start negotiations with the Kremlin only if there are serious security guarantees, the best of which would be Ukraine’s membership in NATO. In addition, according to him, forcing the Russian president to negotiate would require the realization that he cannot win the war.
“For this, it is necessary to provide Ukraine with military support and not stop the sanctions pressure. The combination of these factors can eventually lead to negotiations,” the diplomat is convinced.
According to Heusgen, the signal that this year’s conference should send is that the partners are not tiring in their support of Ukraine.
Note that the 60th Munich Security Conference will be held from February 16 to 18 under the slogan “Towards peace through dialogue”. A number of Ukrainian politicians will participate in the conference, including President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
