The government will pay the NBU more than ₴120B for printing the hryvnia last year.

Ukraine has not printed money for budgetary needs for the last six months.

According to the National Bank’s calculations, in 2023 the total amount it will receive from the Ministry of Finance for government bonds (OVDP) in its portfolio will amount to ₴120.75B, analysts write.

The NBU will receive the most from the bonds it bought from the government during 2022 – ₴81.15B. Last year, the NBU bought a total of ₴400B in OVDP from the Ministry of Finance. The bonds will be in circulation for up to 30 years. The interest rate for most of these OVDPs is floating and depends on the NBU discount rate. At the same time, ₴120B in bonds have a rate fixed at 11% per annum. The rest of the OVDP in the National Bank’s portfolio were issued in previous years.

According to the NBU’s calculations, in 2024 the government will pay it ₴94.52B in interest for OVDP, and in 2025 – ₴81.34B. The total value of OVDP in the NBU’s portfolio is ₴690.7B($18.8B). Their repayment schedule extends until 2052.
