The largest international container line, MSC Mediterranean Shipping Co (Switzerland), intends to resume regular feeder service to the seaports of Odesa in June 2024.
The service will operate between the Turkish port of Tekirdag and the Odesa seaport, with the first call scheduled for mid-June. Thus, MSC becomes the first international container line with a plan to restore its connections to the ports of Odesa since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
Before the war, MSC offered two feeder services to the ports of Odesa, which were received by terminals in the Odesa and Black Sea ports. From 2019 to 2021, the company took second place among international container lines regarding container turnover in Ukrainian seaports after the Danish carrier, Maersk. MSC’s share in the Ukrainian port container transshipment market at that time exceeded 15%.
In total, MSC now controls approximately 20% of the world’s container shipping market.
