Germany’s main political opposition force, the CDU/CSU alliance, is calling on the federal government to support the prospect of Ukraine’s membership in NATO ahead of the Vilnius summit, reported Spiegel.

According to the adopted proposal, the future of Ukraine lies with NATO. Therefore, the CDU and the CSU call on the German government to integrate Ukraine “into a security architecture that will ensure the long-term security of Ukrainians against Russian aggression, protect the territorial integrity of Ukraine, ensure Ukraine’s integration into the Western world and, in the long term, make it possible for Ukraine to join NATO.”

The CDU and the CSU believe that the federal government must promote confidence in Germany at the upcoming NATO summit.
