War in Ukraine will be discussed on June 17, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy set to meet with US President Donald Trump, as confirmed by a White House official to Axios. The two leaders last met during Pope Francis’s funeral in April.
This G7 summit commenced on June 15, amid escalating Middle Eastern tensions and ongoing tariff disputes. The leaders of the G7 countries will try to persuade the White House against imposing tariffs, which raises concerns that the event may pivot to numerous bilateral discussions instead of showcasing unity.
The ongoing war in Ukraine will also be a focal point, with the summit aimed at discussing support for Ukraine, including financial aid for post-war recovery.
Zelenskyy revealed that he plans to hold multiple bilateral talks with G7 leaders throughout the event and anticipates that enhancing sanctions against Russia will be a key agenda item. Discussions on the Ukraine war are scheduled for Tuesday.
