According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the first two biomethane plants will be operational in Ukraine by the end of 2022. One is in the Chernihiv region, with a capacity of up to three million cubic meters of fuel per year and the second is in the Vinnytsia region, with a total of up to 10 million cubic meters per year. According to calculations from the Bioenergy Association, by 2030 Ukraine will be able to completely replace imported natural gas up to 10 billion cubic meters per year. In addition, Ukraine will be able to export biomethane to the EU through existing gas pipelines. The EU has shown interest in buying Ukrainian biomethane at the price of natural gas. A corresponding memorandum on cooperation between Ukrainian and Dutch companies has already been signed.
