The European Commission will present the EU defense industry’s strategy; Germany and Denmark are increasing ammunition production for Ukraine.

Ukraine increased the production of mortar and artillery shells to a record level.

Artillery ammunition 155 mm

The European Commission will propose a strategy for the EU’s defense industry in the coming weeks, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said before the start of an informal meeting of European leaders at the invitation of the Spanish Presidency of the EU in Granada.

Meanwhile, the German arms concern Rheinmetall has received a large order for the supply of artillery ammunition after a second tender under a framework contract with the German government. The German government ordered tens of thousands of L15 projectiles and regular 155-mm Assegai projectiles from the company for the German military. Delivery is scheduled for 2024. Another recent €1.2 billion deal for 155 mm artillery ammunition is due in 2029.

In parallel, Denmark acquired a military factory in Northern Jutland to produce ammunition for Ukraine.
