The EU will not start accession negotiations with other countries without a corresponding decision regarding Ukraine.

The European Commission is not ready for EU expansion within the next seven years.

European countries on the map

According to Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Olga Stefanishyna, it cannot be ruled out that Hungary, which has close ties with Russia and has its interests in the issue of national minorities, may veto the start of negotiations. Also, Poland, despite being an ally in the war, can use this process to resolve the grain issue, which has recently strained relations between Kyiv and Warsaw.

Therefore, Stefanishyna said that Ukraine’s main task is to build a consensus within the EU. For this, Kyiv conducts active individual work with each EU capital.

“Each EU member state understands that the start of accession negotiations with other candidate countries cannot be made without a corresponding decision on Ukraine,” the Deputy Prime Minister noted.

She added that Ukraine has already achieved a positive assessment by the European Commission. As soon as the report is published, Kyiv will start working with EU members on the start of accession negotiations.
