The European Commission will adopt a new support package for EU farmers affected by the influx of Ukrainian agricultural products, the chief EC spokesperson said in Brussels.
The member states have agreed upon the first aid package for Poland, Bulgaria, and Romania for €56M at the end of March. However, it was not enough to appease the Polish farmers who protested, eventually leading to the dismissal of Agriculture Minister Henryk Kowalczyk.
According to Polish Radio, the cost of the second support package will amount to €100M and will be distributed among five countries. As a result, €30M will be provided to Poland alone from the EU anti-crisis reserve.
In addition, the European Commission is preparing measures to ensure that Ukrainian transit grain reaches its destination, such as Africa, and is not delayed in Ukraine’s neighboring countries.
