The EU wants to move more actively to renewable energy.

The EU may set more ambitious targets for the transition to renewable energy, looking for alternatives to oil and gas imports from Russia, stated EU Climate Policy President Frans Timmermans. EU countries have agreed to collectively reduce their net greenhouse gas emissions by 55% compared to 1990 levels by 2030. Absolute zero emissions are targeted to for 2050. Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February, the European Commission has also called on Europe to cut Russian gas imports by two-thirds this year and is working on phasing-out plans through 2027. In May, the European Commission is due to propose an EU Repower plan on how the unit could abandon Russian fossil fuels.
