The European Commission does not see significant negative consequences for European markets from Ukrainian agrarian imports. This was discussed at the European Parliament Committee on Agriculture and Development meeting.
“We monitor the volumes, the price dynamics, the import price at the national level, and the prices at the EU level. So, for now, we do not see any very significant negative consequences for the EU agricultural market,” said EC official Pierre Bascou.
According to him, the Commission is working on the development of solidarity corridors and the reduction of transit costs, because it strives “for Ukraine to continue to make its contribution to world food security.”
At the same time, it is necessary to minimize the negative impact on European farmers, say EC officials. According to them, the surge in exports to the EU “has had some unintended effects on some regional markets and has also put pressure on certain sectors in the EU.”
It is necessary to support the transit of Ukrainian grains through the EU to the final markets, according to MEPs.
