The European Commission’s proposal to provide Ukraine with €50B in loans and grants over the next four years is not contested by any of the EU countries, European Budget Commissioner Johannes Hahn said.
“The central part is the support of Ukraine. No one disputes this, even in terms of volume,” he said.
At the same time, as Telex reports, the Hungarian government has once again declared that it opposes Ukraine’s accession to the EU and the increase of the common EU budget, €50B of which would go to financial support of Kyiv. In Budapest, they believe these issues, which are being discussed in Brussels, are unjustified because the figures are “bad” for the budget, while the EU “illegally” froze cohesion funds for Hungary.
The country’s government is also concerned with what Ukraine’s accession to the EU will mean for agriculture, industry, and many other sectors of Europe’s economy.
