The EU is preparing counter-tariffs targeting the US totaling $28B, and the UK has compiled a list of 8,000 US goods to mirror tariffs.

EU countries will aim to present a united front against Donald Trump’s tariffs in the coming days, likely by approving the initial set of targeted counter-measures on US imports.

The 27 EU countries are facing 25% import duties on steel, aluminum, and cars, along with reciprocal duties of 20% on nearly all other goods. Trump’s duties impact about 70% of EU exports to the US, amounting to a total of €532B.

The European Commission will propose to the bloc’s members on Monday evening a list of US goods that will be subjected to additional duties, which could involve goods worth up to $28B, including meat, cereals, wine, wood, and clothing, as well as diapers and toilet paper.

The UK has released a 400-page list of 8,000 categories of US goods on which it could impose tariffs in response to Trump’s tariffs, covering approximately 27% of UK imports of US goods. The British government is eager to reach a deal with the US, so it will consider all options.
