The EU has changed its position on ending the war in Ukraine and wants to participate in negotiations.

Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans has changed his position on peace talks with Russia, saying that Europe should take the initiative in negotiations to end the war in Ukraine before Donald Trump does. He stressed Europe’s importance in playing a leading role in this process.

“We must ensure that European countries are at the negotiating table so that Trump, together with Putin, does not solve the issues of the security architecture in Europe,” the politician said.

Discussions on this topic and the conditions for peace are only gaining momentum, so it is too early to tell whether the Netherlands is ready to participate in a military mission to ensure a ceasefire, Brekelmans added.

EU diplomatic circles have also stated that Europeans are interested in participating in future peace talks and being involved in any other development in Ukraine’s future.

Currently, European Council President Antonio Costa is focused on ensuring that the EU provides the greatest support amount of support possible to Ukraine in achieving its goals.
