The EU Council has approved the 15th package of sanctions against Russia, which applies to 54 individuals and 30 legal entities. The sanctions include top managers of leading Russian energy companies, individuals involved in the deportation of children, propaganda, and circumvention of sanctions, as well as two high-ranking DPRK officials. The EU has imposed sanctions on 52 vessels from third countries that were used to circumvent previously imposed restrictions, increasing the total number of ships to 79. The list includes a chemical plant and a Russian civil airline that provides logistical support to the Russian military.
For the first time, full-fledged sanctions have been imposed against Chinese companies that supply dual-use goods to Russia. Companies from India, Iran, Serbia, and the UAE have also been restricted from circumventing sanctions.
US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said that the US is considering further sanctions against Russian shadow fleet tankers, the possibility of lowering the price limit for Russian oil to $60, and imposing sanctions against Chinese banks to reduce Russia’s oil revenues.
