According to the shipping company, an idea that is now being considered is to start building new barges using sections of barges that ply the Mississippi River. Experts believe they are compatible with the Danube locks because they have the same width and, therefore, can pass through them. The shipping company states that these barges will be subject to modernization to adapt to the conditions of movement along the Danube for shipping companies. The design offices have already begun their work. The initiative will significantly increase the carrying capacity of barge caravans. From the beginning of the war until the creation of the grain corridors, the Danube River has played a decisive role in the export of Ukrainian food. But the Danube’s infrastructure was not ready for large-scale export of grain to Bulgarian and Romanian seaports.
