The Black Sea blockade could cause a global food catastrophe.

According to the UN, Russia’s blockade of Odessa’s ports could cause a global food catastrophe. In a typical year, these ports help feed 400 million people worldwide. Now they are closed due to the military threat from Russia. If these Ukrainian ports do not open, 45 million people in 38 countries will be at risk of starvation, food riots, and mass migration. The UN World Food Program (WFP) will not be able to help everyone in need because its operating costs have recently increased by $71M a month.
