Researchers from the University of Warsaw and the Academy of Economics and Humanities in Warsaw indicated a growing number of Poles have changed their attitude towards Ukrainian war migrants because of refugees’ rights. The reduction in support applies to almost all forms of assistance to Ukrainians, except for education.
In just five months, the segment of those who believe Poland should help Ukraine during the war decreased from 62% to 42%. Even fewer Poles, 35%, have an unambiguously positive attitude toward the aid provided by Poland compared to 47% in January. A quarter of Poles respond with an unequivocal “no” to additional assistance to Ukraine. The percentage of those who strongly support helping refugees fell from 49% to 28%.
The segment of those who want Ukrainians to return to Ukraine after the war’s end has grown from 53% to 70%. The respondents’ assessment of the social assistance provided by Poland to Ukrainian refugees is unequivocally negative, 60% of respondents say “no” to equal access to benefits, compared to 37% a year ago.
