US vice-presidential candidate JD Vance’s idea that the war can be ended by Ukraine surrendering its territories to Russia is unacceptable, President Zelenskyy said.
“Such a scenario would have no basis in international norms, in the UN charter, in justice. And it will not necessarily end the war,” the president added.
According to him, the conversation with Donald Trump, on the other hand, was as positive as possible, and he expressed clear signs of understanding and support.
“Any president or vice president who puts forward this perspective – that ending the war requires Ukraine to simply give up its land – is responsible for potentially starting a global war. Because such a person will imply that the behavior of the aggressor is acceptable,” said the Ukrainian president.
Zelenskyy added that he does not take Vance’s words seriously because otherwise, it would mean that America is headed for a global conflict.
