Slovakia is seeking to transfer 10 MiG-29s to Ukraine.

If the decision is approved, it will become the first NATO country to transfer fighter jets to Ukraine, the AP notes. Slovakia has not used the planes since last summer due to a lack of spare parts and maintenance specialists after Russian technicians left the country. “We will never use MiGs again. They have no real value for us. If we give them to Ukraine, they will help save lives,” said Slovak Defense Minister Jaroslav Nagy. A final decision is expected within days or weeks. Slovakia has already transferred €168M worth of weapons to Ukraine. This includes S-300 anti-aircraft missiles, helicopters, thousands of rockets for the Grad multiple-launch fire systems, and dozens of armored vehicles. In exchange, Slovakia will receive American Patriot air defense batteries, German Leopard tanks, and Mantis air defense systems.
