Since the beginning of the year, Ukraine has reduced coal imports by almost 300%.

In January-July 2022, Ukraine reduced the import of hard coal and anthracite by 2.7 times (by 7.37 million tons) compared to the same period in 2021, to 4.31 million tons. According to the State Customs Service, the state bought $1.03B worth of coal in monetary terms, which is 11.5% less than in January-July 2021 ($1.16B). $420.59M worth of coal came from the Russian Federation (40.92% import share), $277.97M (27.05%) from the US, $100.24M (9.76%) from Australia, $100.24M (9.76%), and from other countries, $228.67M (22.26%). Exports of coal by Ukraine for the seven months of 2022 amounted to 450,600 tons for $145.92M. These exports were to Slovakia $93.35M, Poland for $34.08M, Hungary for $15.92M, and other countries for $2.57M.
